| | Cenco Belgium, the division in charge of the design and installation of test benches for aeronautic engines of Techspace Aero (SAFRAN Group) has just completed a test bench in Rybinsk in Russia, 350 km to the north of Moscow. |
This open-air test bench is intended to test a whole range of engines up to 50,000 pounds of thrust. At the outset, it will be used for testing the entirely new SaM146 engine currently being developed by Powerjet, an equally-owned joint venture of Snecma and NPO Saturn, which will equip the Russian regional aircraft, Superjet 100, developed by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft. This bench is capable of simulating all the conditions, strains and stresses to which the engine will be subjected in flight and will thus make it possible to perform all the tests necessary for the certification of the engine: acoustic tests, bird ingestion, crosswinds, frost, reverse thrust, endurance campaign, etc.
Cenco has carried out this turnkey project from the design studies to the construction of a set of installations spread over a surface area of approximately 8 hectares: an 11-m high engine attachment pylon, preparation hall, data acquisition and processing systems, compressed-air station, fuel treatment station, special testing equipment for acoustic tests, etc.
Using the latest relevant technologies, the bench is capable of being used both in summer temperatures in the region of 45°C and in the winter period at – 45°C. Started in 2004, the project was delivered to Poluevo Invest, a joint venture formed by Snecma (SAFRAN Group) and NPO Saturn (Russian engine manufacturer) to produce this regional aircraft engine.
This latest test bench represents a new and important calling card for Cenco International, which ranks among the world leaders in the test bench field.
